The Greenfire Campus is comprised of 18 apartments, 18,000 square feet of office building with retail space on the ground floor and 32 total underground parking spaces.
This four-story complex is located at 2034 NW 56th Street in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. Greenfire Campus took sustainability to a new level, having each apartment unit sport its own garden plot as well as public gardens with edible berries and plants. Rainwater is harvested and stored in two cisterns to provide irrigation water for the gardens and landscapes. These amenities coupled with geothermal ground source heat pumps, photovoltaic panels, solar hot water system and natural ventilation with active chilled beams effectively create an urban ecosystem. Jake McKinstry led the project development while at Seneca Group.
The project achieved several awards including AIA Seattle: What Makes it Green (2012) and ENR: Green Project Award of Merit (2013)
